Pregnancy Massage:
1st Trimester: Massage is very important in this early stage of pregnancy, as helps to give general wellness and may level out the chemical and physiological responses of the body. It reassures and nurtures the body at this time alleviating mood swings, morning sickness and nausea. Positioning is not a concern as the tummy has not yet begun to expand, and light stroking without acupressure is given.
2nd Trimester: The hormones in the body begin to level out and the connective tissue softens around the pelvic area. The massage is conducted in the side lying position, using light stroking with the legs slightly elevated for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. The total massage is 30 mins with frequent position changes to allow circulation to your baby in the womb.
3rd Trimester: The discomfort at this stage due to the weight of your growing baby, may cause lower back ache, and the only way to relieve this is to have a wonderful side lying massage. Fluid may accumulate in the legs and feet, and an Oedema massage to the legs and feet may also be incorporated without deep pressures involved in a normal massage technique. Lavender essential oil is used as this does not affect your baby and is completely safe.
